There is so much to do and see in Seattle, Washington and interestingly it also has some of the most acclaimed regional theatre companies in the nation. There are certain cities throughout the US that are considered to be top theatre towns and New York and Chicago are obvious among them, though other major cities like San Francisco and Seattle are also included. There are numerous others that vie for a spot on the list and companies like the Arizona Theatre Company, which is based in Tucson but also performs at the Herberger in Phoenix, The Old Globe in San Diego and the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis are major institutions that gain recognition for their respective cities.
Meanwhile the Seattle Rep and Intiman Theatre are among some of the most respected companies in Seattle. And every great theatre town has its standard award winning iconic institutions as well as more experimental and cutting edge companies that work toward promoting original productions and innovative ways of performing standard works from the theatrical cannon. Some of the other theatres in Seattle area include the New Century Theatre Company and the Seattle Public Theatre among a large and diverse selection of others. It is becoming more common for visitors who are staying in one of the Seattle hotels to be in town specifically for the great theatre.
