Fountains, Meditation, and Water

A garden can be many things to many people. Although the potential for socializing is always very great with any welcoming outdoor space, they also hold an enormous resource for those who are looking for opportunities for solitude and contemplation.

Anyone who’s studied, or even looked at, meditation understands that there are multiple ways of doing it. Every day, and every moment can hold opportunities to take a few breaths and find the way back to center. It’s simple, and difficult, all at the same time, because the distractions of the world can make it hard to remember to breathe at times. The necessary element for any meditation experience is a focal point.

This can be something very simple, like a word, a rhythm, the sound of a bell, one’s own navel , or water. In this regard, then, the garden holds more possibilities with the addition of fountains . Garden fountains can become great aids to any act of introspection.

This is because of their elemental nature, where water has been one of the most common focal points in meditation for centuries. It has a naturally soothing attribute, and it’s also constantly changing. Concentrating on the flow of water is one of the most tried ways of entering into the deep mysteries of the mind, and its possibilities are as endless as the mind.
