Spend Some Time at Boston Common

One of the most popular attraction in New England is Boston Common , which holds the distinction of being the oldest public park in the US. The Commons serves as a starting point and connector for various parts of the city, but is also a wonderful place to visit all by itself.

Boston Common and Public Garden was designed in 1634 by Frederick Law Olmsted as part of the Emerald Necklace, a series of parks that encircles the city. The Common is located near Beacon Hill and the Financial District and is a wonderful place to start a historic tour of the city. Travelers staying at Boston hotels will also find it a lovely stop on route to the Back Bay or Downtown Crossing.

The Common houses numerous historic sites and monuments and is across Beacon Street from the Massachusetts State House . It is home to the city’s famed Swan boats, the Parkman Bandstand, and Brewer Fountain. Ice skaters take to Frog Pond in the winter months and the softball fields are busy throughout the spring and summer. Every year Boston Common is home to the Outdoor Opera Series, Boston Pride, and Shakespeare on the Common as well as other festivals, concerts, rallys, and events.

It’s not so much about what you what you want to tell them as what they want to know. Share information, links to industry news, retweet important posts that would benefit them and establish you as an expert in your field. Lastly, remember to keep tweets as lean as possible. La Jolla Art & Wine Festival in San Diego

La Jolla is a small seaside community located within San Diego. This year, the Village of La Jolla is holding theirs second La Jolla Art & Wine Festival . The goal of the event is to advance arts and education while celebrating the roots of the Village as an artist colony. Over 150 juried artists will exhibit work at the event which will also feature live entertainment, a gourmet marketplace, Geppetto’s Family Art Center and the Green Dragon Wine and Beer Garden. Last year’s inaugural event was attended by over 20,000 art and wine lovers as well as community supporters.

If you’re planning to be at one of the San Diego luxury hotel s in the area on October 9th and 10th, consider heading over to the Festival. All proceeds from LJAWF are donated to local public schools to improve underfunded programs. The three La Jolla schools, part of the San Diego Unified School District, are seriously underfunded in the areas of science, music, technology, physical education and art as well as lacking on-site medical care (school nurses). All those programs will receive funds from the Festival.

Geppetto’s Family Art Center will showcase art from all the La Jolla schools as well as give visitors hands on crafts activities. This year the Food Court and Wine & Beer Garden will be larger and offer even more food and drink from local vendors. Tickets are available on site, with a special two-day pass available. The event runs from 11am – 6pm both days on Upper Girard Avenue.

Organizing the Home for Medical Supplies and TLC

One of the most essential things that anyone can do when they are taking care of someone in the home is to organize. This doesn’t have to mean spending more time working to keep things together, but rather involves some initial set-up. This will ultimately help things down the road, and save so much work later on.

There is a lot of wisdom being circulated about the best ways for creating a healing environment , and some of the best advice comes from those who are in the health profession. Taking some of the same principles that hospitals use, one can make the home a place where care is part of the every day experience. Of course, hospitals don’t necessarily speak immediately of comfort and hospitality for most people, but the changes in the field are working toward mirroring the kinds of experiences one can have in their own home.

This means that having a houseful of medical supplies doesn’t have to create an environment that looks aesthetically sterile. Keeping the important things close at hand, and well-organized, is just one step. Making the home more amenable to caring for those in recovery also involves taking the same design principles that any home can benefit from. There’s a lot of room for spontaneity and improvisation, and when the impulse begins with warmth, this is communicated throughout the living space.

Eating Poutine in Montreal

Montreal has become a Canadian mecca for foodies. Recently voted the 2nd best dining city in North America, Montreal beat out perennial favorite New York. Offering everything from fast food and diners to haute cuisine in five star restaurants, the city is known for a wide range of ethnic influences and local specialties. Travelers will want to step outside their luxury hotel in Montreal and explore the culinary paradise that awaits.

Anyone wanting to truly eat like a local will have to try Montreal poutine . This dish features french fries smothered in gravy and topped off with curds of white cheddar cheese. The name is believed to come from a French word which means mess. There are countless variations on the basic recipes. Some versions of poutine add beef, sausage, vegetables or chicken while others substitute tomato sauce for the gravy to create poutine italienne. Ask several residents where to get the best poutine and you’ll get conflicting answers as everyone has their own favorite.

Other local specialties include split pea soup, small, crusty bagels, and giant beef brisket sandwiches. You may also want to try an “all-dressed” pizza which consists of pepperoni, green peppers, and mushrooms or the local favorite of spaghetti with smoked meat.

Understanding Google Instant

Last week web searchers discovered that Google had raised the search bar yet again. On September 9th they officially announced Google Instant, a feature they had been testing for several weeks and that savvy search engine pundits predicted was coming soon. Google Instant uses what the big G calls predictive results to shorten the time of each search by as much as 5 seconds. The way this works is that pretty much as soon as a user starts typing, they will see results. No more waiting to press the enter key. If you watch closely, you can see the results change literally with every letter you type. Released initially in the US, the change has been rolled out slowly to other countries. As always, results are different if you are logged into a Google service at the time of your search or if you have search history turned on even when you’re not logged in.

While this does provide some improvement in usability for searchers, and potentially hours of distraction for anyone who wants to see what happens when they type certain combinations of letters or follow the interim results away from their original search, there are questions for anyone who uses the web to market their company or their personal brand. And in 2010, that should pretty much be anyone. Questions about how Google Instant affects search impressions , paid advertising impressions, and click through rates for organic and paid traffic should best be addressed by a qualified search engine optimization company like Elixir Interactive . Questions about the impact of this revolutionary change on insignificant things like attention span, focus, and lost hours of productivity due to being pulled away from your original search intent are likely to be debated for some time to come. If worse comes to worst, you can always choose to turn off the instant results so that you’re not tempted to start browsing instead of searching.

Quantum Thinking, Virtual Demos, and Time

One of the things that does seem to characterize the human being is its remarkable adaptability . There are few species that have been able to adjust to great climatic changes over time. In terms of intellectual and psychological changes, the past few centuries have offered enormous challenges, along with some great advancements in culture. People live longer, and have more leisure time. For those who are inclined toward philosophy, this means that people have more time to contemplate what it means to be human .

It also means more time and headspace to integrate changes in the home, in relationships, and certainly in the workplace. The adjustments of the past decade from physical work places to online environments have been nothing less than extraordinary, and do seem to suggest a kind of quantum leap in thinking. In many cases, where organizations change so rapidly, there isn’t a lot of time to reflect on these changes, and people learn to go with the flow.

It’s sometimes necessary to simply give over to the moment and plunge ahead with the shifts. New technologies can be mastered very quickly, with the aid of a virtual software demo , where vast amounts of information can be shared. This allows the organizations to choose the technologies that are right for them with knowledge and understanding before making changes. And the workplace seems very adaptable to these changes once they’re in place.

US Open Tennis Women’s Odds, Now that Serena’s out

Now that 5-time champion Serena Williams is out of the US Open Tennis tournament, the women are going to have an interesting time sorting out the champion of the 4th and final leg of the Grand Slam. The US Open tennis betting analysis is giving odds for this now wide open field.

On the US Open tennis schedule the No.1 ranked player in the tournament is going to be just the 5th selection on the board to win the US Open. Caroline Wozniacki (+900), the Dane has never won a Grand Slam event before and has only made it out of the 4th round into the quarterfinals twice; one during last year’s US Open tennis tournament making her the runner-up. Wozniacki, after last year’s Wimbledon, made it to the 4th round of all the other major tournaments. However, her matches have ended there in 3 of the 5 events.

Kim Clijster (+300), is the No.2 ranked tennis player, and is considered the favorite for the US Open. Clijsters hasn’t played much tennis in the Grand Slam events, but last year, she came out of nowhere to win the US Open. She has only played in 2 of the 3 majors this year. She’s clearly an interesting proposition.

Venus Williams (+800) shouldn’t be dismissed. The elder of the Williams sisters clearly hasn’t been on top of her game lately, but she’s made it to the 4th round of 5 straight Grand Slam events. Even though Venus hasn’t won at the US Open tennis since 2001, a win here will capture her an 8th Grand Slam title in her 13 year career.

The US Open Tennis schedule for the Women’s Singles gives a tantalizing chance to see who will become this year’s champion.
