Spend Some Time at Boston Common

One of the most popular attraction in New England is Boston Common , which holds the distinction of being the oldest public park in the US. The Commons serves as a starting point and connector for various parts of the city, but is also a wonderful place to visit all by itself.

Boston Common and Public Garden was designed in 1634 by Frederick Law Olmsted as part of the Emerald Necklace, a series of parks that encircles the city. The Common is located near Beacon Hill and the Financial District and is a wonderful place to start a historic tour of the city. Travelers staying at Boston hotels will also find it a lovely stop on route to the Back Bay or Downtown Crossing.

The Common houses numerous historic sites and monuments and is across Beacon Street from the Massachusetts State House . It is home to the city’s famed Swan boats, the Parkman Bandstand, and Brewer Fountain. Ice skaters take to Frog Pond in the winter months and the softball fields are busy throughout the spring and summer. Every year Boston Common is home to the Outdoor Opera Series, Boston Pride, and Shakespeare on the Common as well as other festivals, concerts, rallys, and events.
