Over the past few years Twitter-fever has ruled the internet. Even individuals who have never visited the site let alone set up an account know about this micro-blogging website. Social media has taken over the web and many companies and individuals are wondering how best to leverage their professional reputation using these various sites. Internet marketing companies are some of the best experts in this constantly evolving field. Companies can turn to elixir interactive social media advice and other social media marketing companies to learn how best to utilize Twitter.

One of the first steps in using Twitter is to grab the best username for your company or individual brand. It should be easily to associate and easy to remember. Once the account is established, you’ll want to make sure you are tweeting on a regular basis. Accounts that are only used whenever there’s a press release or blog post to promote are quickly ignored by your potential audience. Make sure you are keeping your audience in mind. It’s not so much about what you what you want to tell them as what they want to know. Share information, links to industry news, retweet important posts that would benefit them and establish you as an expert in your field. Lastly, remember to keep tweets as lean as possible. You only have 140 characters, so boil it down to the essential information you want to share. You’ll also want to make sure you’re following elixir interactive and other social media experts for tips, advice, and news about changes in social media.

Understanding Google Instant

Share Button

Last week web searchers discovered that Google had raised the search bar yet again. On September 9th they officially announced Google Instant, a feature they had been testing for several weeks and that savvy search engine pundits predicted was coming soon. Google Instant uses what the big G calls predictive results to shorten the time of each search by as much as 5 seconds. The way this works is that pretty much as soon as a user starts typing, they will see results. No more waiting to press the enter key. If you watch closely, you can see the results change literally with every letter you type. Released initially in the US, the change has been rolled out slowly to other countries. As always, results are different if you are logged into a Google service at the time of your search or if you have search history turned on even when you’re not logged in.

While this does provide some improvement in usability for searchers, and potentially hours of distraction for anyone who wants to see what happens when they type certain combinations of letters or follow the interim results away from their original search, there are questions for anyone who uses the web to market their company or their personal brand. And in 2010, that should pretty much be anyone. Questions about how Google Instant affects search impressions , paid advertising impressions, and click through rates for organic and paid traffic should best be addressed by a qualified search engine optimization company like Elixir Interactive . Questions about the impact of this revolutionary change on insignificant things like attention span, focus, and lost hours of productivity due to being pulled away from your original search intent are likely to be debated for some time to come. If worse comes to worst, you can always choose to turn off the instant results so that you’re not tempted to start browsing instead of searching.
